ABOUT MY PRACTICE   

My work lies at the intersection of integrative, Functional Medicine-based Clinical Nutrition, Mindfulness, Somatic Practices and the Mind-Body Connection. Combining these fields allows me to create customized, wholly unique healing plans for people seeking to heal themselves in a foundational and comprehensive way. 

I also provide educational content, classes, lectures and workshops on the various healing modalities I study.

Nutrition as The Fundamental Bedrock of Health 

Few Health Practitioners consider or advise on the pivotal, imperative role of food on one's health. I view Nutrition as the single most foundational cornerstone of health and healing. Without sound nutrition, wellness is essentially impossible. With sound nutrition, seemingly extraordinary healing can come about - when accompanied by healthy lifestyle choices.

The Study of Individual Stress Responses

The role of the body's stress response upon one's health status is either completely omitted in the framework of conventional healthcare, or briefly considered as a peripheral after thought at best. I consider one's personal stress response to be one of the most central factors  affecting every facet of every being's physiological, psychological and energetic wellness. This is a guiding principle that is at play when I am designing  personalized health interventions.

Somatic Psychology & Psychoneuroimmunology

There is far too little attention payed to the profound and well documented relationship between the intersectionality of the psyche and our  physiological function. One branch of this field of study is called Psychoneuroimmunology - and I weave together components of it's principles when approaching each case of health challenges.

The Application of Mindfulness on the  Mind-Body Connection

The Somatic World is a wonderland of exquisitely orchestrated symbiotic multi-directionality. There are finely tuned automatic information feedback loops that happen between our brain and our organ systems that are influenced by our thoughts and beliefs, without us having any conscious awareness of them doing so. Working to develop Mindfulness as an intervention for the breakdown of this brilliant system is essential. Considering this data of the mind-body connection when creating and  implementing healing protocols can make an astounding effect on successful outcomes.

ABOUT JENNA

I'm Jenna Zagoren and I am the owner of Mind Body Nourishment. With a background in studies in Integrative Clinical Nutrition, Somatic Practices, Buddhist Psychology and Organic Agriculture, paired with a deep affinity for the plant world and very, very green thumbs, I bring my knowledge of the effects of the human psyche and the world of plant medicine -  on the human body, into all my work.

 

I earned my Master of Science degree from Maryland University of Integrative Health in Nutrition and Integrative Health - a graduate program based in Medical Nutrition Therapy that utilizes the Functional Medicine paradigm. I have completed additional Graduate Level specialized training in Health and Wellness Coaching and have sat for and passed the Board of Certified Nutrition Specialists (BCNS) Board Exam. 

 

My Mindfulness and Somatic Movement studies include the completion of over 700 hours of Yoga Teacher Trainings and a daily asana practice for 14 years. I have studied Mindfulness practice extensively through both the Buddhist teachings with my beloved teacher, the renowned Tara Brach whom I had the privilege of seeing in person weekly for over 5 years - and through the lens of Mindfulness Based Psychology of Dialectical Based Therapy (DBT).

 

I see clients individually and teach unique mindfulness and wellness workshops in person and remotely. In addition to operating a private practice I provided Nutrition Advising for an integrative compounding pharmacy and apothecary for several years. To Keep things well-rounded, I also study Traditional Hellenistic Astrology, a truly unique perspective on that school of thought can be found here.

By doing something as simple as breathing with intention and paying attention as we do so, we are remarrying our awareness with the body.

This is our entrance to the present moment. By doing this simple yet radical action, we create a richly fertile ground for enormously transformative physical and mental healing  to take place.

Integrative health is based on the philosophy that all parts of a being affect each other and are in relationship with one another. One facet of our being affects all the other facets of it. When a symptom or a set of symptoms appear, those symptoms are seen through the lens of being part of a greater cohesive system, rather than as isolated symptoms appearing and existing separate from the greater whole.
